Phillip Foster

Tinseltown Dreams: The 50’s has a key component that some people may not realize. The sounds and themed music play a big role in setting the tone for the game.  As the Lead Sound Engineer, Philip Foster III had the undertaking of creating these wonderful musical interpretations for the game.

He started by looking at each 50’s movie genre to see what inspired him most. Philip had the most fun working on the soundtrack for the Musical genre. During the creation, Philip repeatedly listened to classic 50’s musicals to gain inspiration. The most challenging genre was Adventure. He had to use wood winds and horns and rhythmic elements to create a sound track that was most authentic. While the majority of the in-game soundtrack was created using digital equipment, there are some live bass guitar recordings preformed by our own producer, Danny Pisano.

This was Philip’s first full PC game that he worked on, and he is excited for the next title.

Philip Foster III is a sound engineer at Namco Networks. When he’s not busy creating in-game music and sfx, Philip enjoys snowboarding and mountain biking.

I could tell he had fun with the musical theme - the way it builds and feels like a real musical theme was surprisingly cool. I think he did this very well and was impressed with how each song fit the genre nicely. Not only that, but the way it was hard to tell where the song ended and began again sometimes. Very smoothly done there!

My favorite was the Sci-Fi theme and then the Horror. I would like to download those tracks to play while I'm doing other stuff.

Least faves were the romance song and the comedy tune. The comedy tune was good but so good that I could almost hear words to it that it began to drive me batty. The romance song just made me want to poke a stick in my eye after about an hour of hearing it. Still, not a bad tune just easily gets annoying.

Not too often I'm impressed by game music enough to seek out the maker, but I have to say - you're very talented!
Without the music, this game would have been much lamer.
